5G mobile networks promise to revolutionize connectivity between devices. In 2014, Verizon partnered with Alipes to launch a campaign targeting policymakers and stakeholders in national and local statehouses. Consumers and policymakers already assume 5G will improve mobile data networks. However, many did not understand that the underlying 5G technology requires denser cellular networks. Current policies effectively banned "small cells" — mini-cell towers spread throughout our cities and neighborhoods. Our campaign showcased the benefits of 5G, including how mobile networks are often the only access point to the internet in impoverished city neighborhoods and rural America. The campaign advocated for the necessary legislative groundwork preceding the 5G revolution. Today, Verizon is testing 5G networks in cities across America.
